Guess What?

Guess what?
Chicken butt.
Just kidding.
We're doing another show.

Uh...look, we're not going to try to convince you to come because that would be unseemly.
We're just going to say that in last month's audience we had parents in their 30's, college kids, gay academics, a drag queen and someone's drunk grandma.

AND THEY ALL LOVED IT.

And so will you.

So will you.

XO,
Mel & El

We're Back

MEL: Hey, El?
EL: Yes, Mel?
MEL: I'm glad that you have a baby now.
EL: It is always better when we are even.
MEL: So, I could not get out of bed this morning and when I finally walked

in to the living room, my two-year-old was watching porn.
EL: WHAT?
MEL: Well, it wasn't actual pornography, it was a Rihanna video.
EL: Same thing.
MEL: I'm pretty sure he now knows how to roll a blunt and get

someone pregnant.
EL: Those are both valuable life skills.
MEL: Yeah, I just won Parenting.

EL: I am obviously lagging behind on Baby Charlie's education.
MEL: I don't think they recommend porn until six months old, so you're

still on track.
EL: Thanks.

MEL: Can we stop talking about this now?

EL: Please.
MEL: We're doing a show!

EL: I know it!
MEL: Our first show where we are both entirely sleep deprived.
EL: WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN?
MEL: I don't even know. Crazy things. Wonderful things.
EL: Funny things.
MEL: I'm sorry I didn't hear you, I was sleeping.

Reasons

Dearest People,

Reasons to come:

1. It's in one week.
2. It's the last big one for awhile because El went and got herself knocked up.
3. Lots of brand new songs ABOUT things.
4. We'll be sad if we don't see you (like how our faces look above).
5. El is hormonal and unpredictable. Please help us keep her happy.
6. Mel doesn't get out much so at the show she might just do something INSANE.

That's enough reasons. We love you.

- Mel & El

P.S. Here's a fun interview we did about the show.

Twosomes and Threesomes

Remember when wearing jean jackets and buttons wasn't ironic?

Dearest Friends,

There is a thing called the NY Funny Songs Fest and it's happening. It's all happening. And soon.

We are totally honored to be hosting a show in the festival called Twosomes and Threesomes. Doesn't the edgy title make you want to attend? Is your brain slightly tricked into thinking that if you show up you will actually witness some sexy time?

No! You are very intelligent! So you understand that we are referring to Comedy Music Performers that come in pairs and trios!

On Friday, May 31st come check out: Stuckey & Murray, Squirm and Germ, The Skivvies, The Parodivas and also US!

This will be fun. Also, The Skivvies perform in their underwear.

XO,
Mel & El

P.S. We will wear all of our clothes.

Bring Your Wands!

Hermione is there so it has to be real.
MEL: Hey, El?
EL: Yes, Mel?
MEL: Have you packed for Orlando yet?
EL: That's not until this weekend and we have a gig in Pennsylvania before that, so...no.
MEL: You went to college in Orlando. Will this feel like a sort of homecoming to you?
EL: Um, sure. Why are you being weird?
MEL: I'm not being weird.
EL: Yes, you are. Wait. Are you...excited?
MEL: What are you talking about?
EL: You're EXCITED. Usually, you're just bogged down in logistics and details.
MEL: I'm always excited to do our show.
EL: But you seem almost giddy.
MEL: Well, it's not every day that we are so close to Ollivander's Wand Shop.
EL: WHAT?
MEL: At the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando! You can go to Ollivander's!
EL: And?
MEL: And your WAND will pick YOU.
EL: For $185, yeah. The wand will pick your pocket. Eh? EH?
MEL: Don't joke about Harry Potter.
EL: I love The Potter as much as you but you know we won't have time to go there, right?
MEL: Yeah, I know. But just thinking about the possibility of it makes me happy.
EL: We've been best friends for 25 years and I've never found you to be a bigger nerd than I do right now.
MEL: Thanks.
EL: You're welcome.

If you're in Orlando or Orlando-adjacent,
come join us on May 3rd and May 4th!

AND BRING YOUR WANDS!

Hobos like FREE songs

Mel: Hey, El?
El: Yes, Mel?
Mel: I've been trying to be more "living in the world" lately and less "living under a rock".
El: Terrific!
Mel: So I downloaded a few of the most popular albums that the kids are listening to these days.
El: Well, now you just said 'albums' so you've defeated your purpose, but anyway...
Mel: ANYWAY! I feel like all the new bands are Hobo Bands.
El: What in the world are you talking about?
Mel: Like, Mumford and People, Alabama Shakes, Lumineers, fun...or Fun!...or FUN...or whatever they are...
El: This is fun.
Mel: They all seem like they've hitched a ride on a steam engine heading West with a stick over their shoulder tied with a red bandanna.
El: Ok.
Mel: Every one of those bands has a woman in the corner playing a jug. Or spoons.
El: Yes.
Mel: I feel like they probably get paid in soup.
El: Well, I love all of those bands.
Mel: I really enjoy them, too. I'm just saying they seem like Hobos.
El: Are WE a Hobo Band?
Mel: This isn't about us, but no. We are not hip enough to be a Hobo Band. We don't wear vintage clothing. We don't even play an instrument.
El: I will play the spoons if you play the jug.
Mel: Why do I always have to be the one playing the jug? This is so typical.
El: None of this is typical.

ARE YOU OVER HOBO BANDS?

Let's look at each other in various places!

Being funny with our faces at a video shoot for NYFSF (see below!)

There are some things coming up where we'd like to look at you in your face. And just enjoy your face in a friendly way.

  • IN NYC! The ass-kicking theater company Studio 42 has asked us to host their Unproducible Smackdown on March 23rd. There will be plays. There will be winners and losers. There will be us. Wanna know MORE?
  • IN ORLANDO! Please come join us in Mouseland for two shows at the Orlando Cabaret Festival in early May. Wanna know MORE?

In between all of that, we'll be in other places called Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. Check out our schedule to know MORE!

So, this one time at Bandcamp...

The next FREE Mel & El song is available on Bandcamp right this second.

It's "Facebook Is Evil". Because it is.

Since you're probably reading this on your Internet Device while toggling between your email and Facebook, why don't you press Play and listen to it as background music while you read inane updates on your Newsfeed about somebody's baby, dog or lunch?

And then you can post a link to the song ON Facebook!

Our minds. Officially. Blown.

Adult Women in Tutus

Sometimes when we perform on Anne LiPuma and Kit Stewart's Wild Women of Comedy with the amazing Jessica Kirson and Vanessa Hollingshead there is a sketch where some of the grown-ass producers dress up like Sophia Grace & Rosie from the Ellen show:

Flanked by adult women in tutus.

Sophia Grace and Rosie, in case you didn't know.
It was fun. And the audience was the most wonderful combination of lesbian couples and elderly Jews. What could be better than that?

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

Unfortunately, for us, in this well-known proverb WE are "the cow".

But fortunately, for you, in this well-known proverb "the milk" is a FREE SONG!

And the song is a rap about CHEESE which makes the use of this well-known proverb even MORE apropos.

What is this insanity of which we speak?

Free Song! (or, I Wanna Marry a What?)

So, we recorded a CD awhile back called Mel & El: She's My Bitch. You can check it out on iTunes or wherever else compact discs are electronically sold. Since then we've recorded a big, fat handful of more recent music and have decided to make it available to you super-easy-style on a site called Bandcamp. And the first song is available NOW!

You can just listen to the song for free on the site or you can download it for a buck if you wanna be able to take it with you on your iThings and such. Easy!

Our friend Chiffon Dior posted a little interview with us about it in case you aren't familiar with the origin of the song. Check out the article HERE.

And then check out the song on Bandcamp!

#grateful

This is how Lindsay feels when she doesn't get a side dish.

El: Hey, Mel?
Mel: Yes, El?
El: What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
Mel: Family. You?
El: Same.
Mel: It's nice that we can be with family.
El: It IS nice. But I also wish we could spend it together.
Mel: Me too, but that would be a disaster.
El: Why?
Mel: Because eating salad from Pret a Manger is not Thanksgiving.
El: Are you saying we aren't capable of doing anything fancier than grabbing healthy-branded fast food?
Mel: That is correct. And I'm not willing to give up Side Dishes.
El: As usual, you have a point.
Mel: Thanks.
El: Should we at least watch Liz & Dick while talking on the phone together on Sunday night?
Mel: Lindsay Lohan making Lifetime movies is the thing for which I am most grateful.
El: I'll take that as a yes.
Mel: Take it as a "hell yes".
El: Happy Thanksgiving, Mel.
Mel: Happy Thanksgiving, El.

We're not 12. But we act like it.

Sometimes we do gigs at places like the comedy music showcase of the New York Comedy Festival at the Ace Hotel. Apparently, when we do these gigs we tend to move our arms and legs in unison like twelve year old girls in a dance recital. Terrific.

This epic week

There is so much important stuff happening this week. Allow us to break it down for you:

Thing 1: The Northeast was practically demolished by a hurricane. You may have heard about it. (Go here to learn lots of helpful information about how to help with the recovery).

Thing 2: It's VOTING DAY. Again, you may have heard. We're not here to tell you how to vote, except that you should totally go for the guy whose name rhymes with O'llama. (For New Yorkers, go here to learn lots of helpful information about polling stations).

Thing 3: This Friday, we're very proud to be participating in the New York Comedy Festival's first showcase of comedy music called SOLID GOLD. It features some seriously terrific talent like Jessica Delfino, Ben Lerman, Carolyn Castiglia, the Reformed Whores and more! Join us there after your busy week of voting and volunteering! It'll be THE MOST FUN!

Getting Bawdy with Mike Daisey

It's not every day we have the opportunity to get bawdy with Mike Daisey. And, really, what does that even mean?

Join us Friday at Galapagos Art Space (our favorite places for art are Spaces) for BAWDY STORYTELLING. It has been an epically popular show on the West Coast for six years and they are debuting in NYC this week with Mr. Daisey and a bunch of other Tellers of Story! We get to be the musical guests in between all the perv-y, sex-laden anecdotes. We have no idea why they thought we would be appropriate musical guests for such a scandalous event but we'll manage to come up with something.

Here is a link to all the details you ever wanted: ALL THE DETAILS EVER. Come along!

The Very Breast

This is Bald Oprah. She is not her hair.

For today's blog post, we direct you to another blog. (The word "blog" sounds bizarre when you say it too many times. Blog. BLOG. Blergh.)

El's cousin Steph has a brilliantly snarky attitude about her breast cancer, and we think you will enjoy reading her words. CLICK HERE and feel your feelings.

Voting is important! Voting is sexy!

They look like they're thinking about voting.

EL: Hey, Mel?
MEL: Yes, El?
EL: It's time for a call to action. We need to get everyone to vote.
MEL: True. People think that Romney's unending gaffes are gonna be his end but there is widespread voter suppression and...
EL: I'm talking about the Broadway World Awards Nominations.
MEL: Seriously?
EL: Yeah, they just added some cabaret-esque categories and regular folks can nominate us for things.
MEL: I don't think you're supposed to ASK people to nominate you.
EL: Please! This is how the universe works! Everything is a popularity contest! Kardashians run the world!
MEL: That is so depressing.
EL: Or it's amazing! As long as we get our base FIRED UP! READY TO GO!
MEL: Please don't co-op Obama campaign language for this situation.
EL: I can't be stopped!

HERE IS WHAT TO DO:

1. Go here
2. Fill in "Mel & El" where it says "Person" in the categories where that makes sense.
3. Fill in "Mel & El: Our Time of the Month" where it says "Show" in those same categories.
4. Tell everyone you know to do the same
5. Do it again
6. Feel really good about yourself

EL: Was that so bad?
MEL: A little bit.
EL: Don't worry. We'll go do some volunteer hours right now for something important to help make up for it.
MEL: REALLY?
EL: No. We're gonna watch Kourtney and Kim Take Miami.
MEL: I hate you.
EL: You're watching it already, aren't you?
MEL: Yeah.
