There were hours spent scrutinizing the splatter paint background. That's love. |
We are children of the late-80's/early-90's and grew up with a deep love for exactly the pop superstars you would imagine: Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Mel also really loved Barry Manilow and El really loved Neil Diamond, but we blame that on our parents influence and don't think this should be held against us.
Mel very excitedly went out and bought the "45" of Whitney's 'How Will I Know' when it came out and spent hours playing it over and over again while dancing around her living room, staring at the cover picture (above) and wishing she could look and sound like that. On some level, she will always wish she was a spunky, skinny, Black Lady who could pull off over sized pastel sweaters and bangles.
El's favorite Whitney-ness is the 'I Will Always Love You' video. Ms Whitney was all pregnant and sitting the whole time, and they cleverly interspersed that image with movie clips so she didn't have to do much. El has always been partial to a woman who can "sang" (or lip-sang) while With Child. Mel appreciates this.
